New Features
Proxmox VE Backup (General Access Beta)
Proxmox Virtual Environment backups are now available to all partners as a General Access Beta. There is no opt-in and no additional charge until it reaches general release.
What you can do:
Back up and restore Proxmox virtual machines and containers.
Restore virtual machines to Hyper-V, Proxmox, or VMware.
Restore physical machines from Disk Image Protected Items.
Use the migration tool to move from Hyper-V or VMware to Proxmox.
Beta notice: This feature is in active development. There is a risk of bugs or unexpected behavior. I recommend testing on non-critical systems before a broad rollout.
RPM Installer for Linux
You can now install the Magnus Box desktop app on RHEL family systems using a native RPM installer. This is ideal for managed Linux fleets that require consistency and compliance.
MSI Installer for Windows
Deploy the Magnus Box desktop app with a .msi package. This supports the same install features and flags as the .exe installer and is well-suited for mass deployment tools.
Automatic Storage Vaults and Default Protected Items
Policies can now automatically create a Storage Vault for each new device. They can also attach a Default Protected Item so the device is ready to back up on the first check-in.
Tips:
Set a schedule on the Default Protected Item.
Use the latest Storage Vault in the schedule to have new devices get a new vault automatically and start backing up on that schedule.
Enhancements
Linux Disk Image Driver
We have improved snapshot driver support for Linux Kernel 6.14. This enhancement will provide better performance and reliability.
Restore to Compressed Archive
The restore dialog is now clearer. You can choose the target folder, filename, and archive format when restoring to a compressed file.
Storage Vault Names
New vaults created during device registration now include the device name. This makes tracking easier.
Snapshot and File Selection UI
We have made the layout cleaner and improved consistency in the Management Console. This applies when choosing snapshots and files, as well as in the remote file picker for Protected Items.
Management Console Tables
Expect faster table loads and better page navigation for large lists. Inline column filters have also been added for easier data management.
Policy Schedule Vault Selection
Vault selection now gives precedence to vaults associated with the current device. This results in more predictable outcomes.
Bug Fixes
Fixed missing disk size details when browsing VMware backups during a VM restore.
Fixed missing log messages when a websocket or webhook handler disconnects in some cases.
Fixed excessive `http2: server: error reading preface from client` messages in core logs.
Fixed a rare core deadlock when a live connection stops processing messages but remains connected.
Fixed an issue during new device registration where the automatic Storage Vault option could be blocked by the policy preventing the creation of new Storage Vaults via Storage template.
Fixed an issue that prevented automatically provisioned Storage Vaults from being used by Latest Vault schedules in policy Protected Items on newly registered devices.
Fixed a Microsoft 365 Drive size mismatch where a one-byte difference was reported incorrectly.
Conclusion
The Magnus Box 25.8.0 release brings significant improvements and new features. I encourage you to explore these updates. They are designed to enhance your experience and streamline your backup processes. If you have any questions or need assistance, feel free to reach out.
