Straight answers

The questions every MSP actually asks.

Pricing, migration, storage, ransomware, and whether we'd ever go around you to your clients. If something isn't answered here, call the founder and ask.

Pricing & packaging

What it costs.

What does Magnus Box cost for an MSP?

MSP wholesale is $7 per workstation and $17 per server per month for files-and-folders backup with pooled storage. Disk image, Microsoft 365, VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox, databases and Managed Backup are per-unit add-ons you enable per client. A $45/month partner account includes white-label branding, support, and your first three licenses free. You set your own client pricing and keep the margin.

Is there a contract or a device minimum?

No contract and no minimum device count. Cancel any time. Pricing is monthly and you only pay for the devices and add-ons actually in use.

How does the pooled storage work?

Every client you protect draws from one shared storage pool, the way a family phone plan shares data. A busy file server borrows headroom from quiet laptops, so you buy total capacity for your business instead of sizing every machine individually. You watch the pool and add capacity in clear blocks as you grow. There is no per-GB overage bill.

What happens if I outgrow my storage pool?

You add capacity in defined blocks at a price you can see before you buy. Nothing silently overages, and no invoice arrives with a per-GB charge you didn't expect.

Do I have to buy a bundle to get one workload?

No. Every workload is a separate per-unit add-on. If one client needs Microsoft 365 backup and nothing else, you turn on Microsoft 365 backup for that client and pay for that.

Getting started & migration

How you actually move.

Is there a free trial?

Yes, and it doesn't need a credit card. You get a working environment, not a sandbox, so you can protect real machines and test a real restore before deciding anything. Start a trial →

How long does setup take?

Most MSPs are protecting their first clients the same afternoon they start a trial. You brand the console, push the agent to your fleet with our RMM deploy script, and set schedules and retention per client.

How painful is migrating from my current backup vendor?

It isn't a rip-and-replace weekend. We map your current setup, brand your console, and move clients over one at a time. Your old backups keep running until the new ones are verified, so there's no gap in protection and no risky cutover. We test real restores before you switch anything off. See how migration works →

Can I deploy the agent from my RMM?

Yes. We provide a deploy script you can push through your RMM to install and register the agent across a whole fleet, rather than touching machines one at a time.

Channel & white-label

Whose client is it.

Will Magnus Box ever sell to my clients?

No. We're channel-only. We sell through MSPs and never to their clients. Your accounts, your brand, and your relationships stay yours. We have no direct sales motion to compete with you.

How white-label is it, really?

Your logo and branding go on the console, the agent, and the reports your clients see. White-label is included in the $45/month partner account rather than sold as a premium tier. More on white-label vs reselling →

Can I set my own client pricing?

Yes. The rates above are what you pay us. What you charge your clients is entirely your call, and the margin is yours.

Protection & recovery

What happens when it goes wrong.

What can I back up with Magnus Box?

Servers and workstations on Windows, macOS and Linux, Microsoft 365 including Mail, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams, VMware vSphere and ESXi, Hyper-V, Proxmox VE virtual machines and LXC containers, full disk image with bare-metal recovery, and application-aware database backup for SQL, Exchange, MySQL and MongoDB. See every workload →

What happens if a client gets hit by ransomware?

We keep immutable backups an attacker can't alter or delete, encrypted with AES-256 and stored off-site away from the client's network. You restore from a clean recovery point instead of paying a ransom.

Can I restore a whole machine to different hardware?

Yes. Disk image backups support full bare-metal recovery to physical hardware, to a hypervisor, or to a cloud target, so you're not blocked when the original box is gone.

Security & compliance

The auditor questions.

How is my data encrypted and who holds the keys?

Data is encrypted with AES-256 in transit and at rest, and the encryption keys stay with you. Read the encryption and key management docs →

Can Magnus Box support clients with HIPAA obligations?

Magnus Box provides the technical safeguards a HIPAA program expects from a backup platform: AES-256 encryption in transit and at rest, immutable off-site recovery points, per-client retention control, and access controls. HIPAA compliance is always a shared responsibility across your practices and ours rather than a product certification, so the specifics for regulated clients are documented in the knowledge base and the founder will walk through them on a call. Read the HIPAA notes →

What happens to my data if I leave?

You keep control of your data and your encryption keys, and you can restore what you need before closing an account. There's no contract holding you in place while you move.

Support & company

Who you reach.

Can I actually talk to a real person?

Yes. Phone, chat and email, 9am to 9pm EST, Monday to Friday, answered by people who've run an MSP. It isn't a ticket queue and it isn't a script. Sometimes it's the founder who picks up.

Who is behind Magnus Box?

Magnus Box was founded in 2018 by Mike Slodowski, who has run an MSP since 2010 and built the platform to fix the backup problems that bit his own shop first. It's the same platform his MSP runs on. Read the founder's story →
